The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) consists of 5 members appointed by the Town Council to serve staggered four-year terms without compensation. Members may be appointed to serve a maximum of two successive terms. The BZA meets as needed when cases are filed with the Planning & Zoning Department at Town Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are always Public Hearings.
It is the BZA's responsibility to hear cases and decide appeals to the Town Zoning Code regarding Variances, Special Exception Uses, and decisions of the Planning & Zoning Administrator. Decisions of the BZA are final and immediate.
Appeals to a BZA decision may only be made to the Charleston County court system.
If needed, the BZA meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Council Chambers in Town Hall.
